Performer Directory

I'm really impressed with the performer directory , gals!  It's really well-organized and you are both really on-top of it - it's going to be a great asset to the county!

Yesterday, Lindsey and I were discussing the format that is best for the directory.  While excel seems like the best way to create it as you go - I'm wondering if there's a better format that will allow the directory to easily grow.  The first thing I thought of was a blog - each post could be one performer's listing and could be tagged with things like:
  • under $300
  • for elementary school students
  • clown
  • magician
And then librarians could search by tag for programs.  They might want a performer that's cheap, so they could look at a whole list of the tags and click on 'under $200' and/or 'under $300' etc.  We could also encourage each library that hosted one of the performers to post a comment about their experience with that performer?  OOh, I'm kind of liking this now.

AND - you two could do a little training maybe at the SRC workshops on how to use it?  Let's chat about it next week!

Fun week!
Here's what i've been working on...

  • Trip to the library for Halloween books to read during intense video filming session--very serious business indeed!
  • Researched tween things--started adding to collection page on the wiki, more to come for tween-related business.
  • Worked on future blog posts
  • Blogged/Tweeted ThursdayI feel like I'm missing something, but this is the general idea of the week's tasks.  yay!
and, of course, happy halloween

New Projects

I know you guys are hard at work on the performer directory and some cool tween resources and stuff.  I added 2 new projects to our wiki page, just in case there's time for some other work.  These aren't projects with hard deadlines, so the performer directory and tween stuff should be your priority at the moment.  But here are 2 ideas I have for you.  Again, no rush on getting to this - you can pace yourself.

The first is interviews with 2 people (more actually, but just 2 for now) that I think would make great 'profile' blog posts.  I don't normally assign blog posts, but I think this would be fun for you and for the librarians in the county.
  • First, Rachel - there is a great librarian (she actually comes from an education background) over at the bookmobile who does all the head-start visits and has a lot of great energy.  It'd be fun to do an interview with her about what she does and take some pictures, go on a ride with her perhaps?  Her name is Becky Sabol and her email is sabolr@einetwork.net and you can email her yourself and explain the idea and set up a time to talk and go on a ride.  Lindsey - you can feel free to go on a ride too if you'd like!  It's a cool experience!
  • Second, Lindsey - there is a new director at RIF with a whole new staff, her name is Flori Ladov and she's really rejuvinating RIF in Pittsburgh.  We've met with her several times to talk about her new approach and some new projects and an interview/profile with her would make a great blog post.  You can email her at fladov@rifpittsburgh.org and introduce yourself and ask if she had any time for a conversation and a visit to the RIF offices.  She's pretty busy, so no worries if she's unavailable - just let me know and we can do this with someone else.
The second is visiting a library or 2 and observing a program or storytime.  I have 3 reccomendations on the wiki, but there are others if those locations don't work or you can't make your schedule work with theirs.  Kristin Burniston from Whitehall is one I'd recommend also.  Or the librarians at CLP-Main Library in Oakland.

Let me know if you have any questions or problems!  Rock on!
